Kuala Lumpur, 23 October 2022 – Yayasan MRCB in collaboration with the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA Perak) organised a Community Engagement Programme with the Orang Asli communities in Kampung Klewang and Kampung Kuala Sungai Tahan, located within the Royal Belum State Park, in Gerik Perak.
The programme which took place from 21st to 23rd October 2022 involved around 50 participants including experienced academic staff and specialists from MRA Perak and MRCB personnel. The volunteers conducted a mobile clinic, health screening, health promotion and educational activities for approximately 200 Orang Asli who live in the Royal Belum State Park.
The main objective of the programme was to provide basic medical, food and welfare assistance for the Orang Asli and at the same time promote personal hygiene and foster friendship with the villagers. The three-days, two-nights programme saw numerous activities lined up including health screenings with blood pressure measurement and weight monitoring.
Minor skin treatments were carried out and good oral and personal hygiene practices demonstrated. Known for their warmth and receptive nature, the villagers also participated in the sports activities and children were allowed to express their creativity during the colouring exercise.
Yayasan MRCB’s Chairperson, Datin Jasmine Abdullah Heng said, “Yayasan MRCB is pleased to collaborate with MRA Perak in bringing this programme to the indigenous people of Kg. Klewang and Kg.Kuala Sungai Tahan. Special thanks to all the volunteers who helped in this programme. We will in the future organise more programmes such as this that will impact lives positively and sustainably.”
Also present at the activity was Yayasan MRCB’s Trustee, En Jamaludin Zakaria, “I am truly blessed to have this chance to give back to the communities. During the trip, we could speak to the villagers and understand their needs, including for food and medical assistance, especially since the pandemic. We will continue to carry out more programmes to benefit communities that require assistance.”
